Palliative & End of Life Care

Letter from Lara Alloway, Clinical Director,

Wessex Palliative and End of Life Care Strategic Clinical Network

At the Wessex Palliative and End of Life Care, Strategic Clinical Network we are committed to improving care for people in their last year of life.  End of life care is care that affects us all, at all ages; the living, the dying and the bereaved. Reports and investigations too frequently identify poor care and we have a responsibility to do better. Around 25,000 people die each year in Wessex and this is set to increase in line with the growing older population.

We are a network of professionals and experts by experience, with an interest and passion,  in improving the end of life care provided across Wessex, as well as raising awareness amongst the general public of the benefits of planning for the future.  We are aware people don't like talking about death and dying, but until we can have honest discussions, we can't develop and implement personalised care plans for all at the end of their lives.

I do hope that you will take the opportunity to read this website. Please do get in touch if you wish to contribute to our work.

We will ensure that these pages are regularly updated with progress made on our work.

With very best wishes,

Lara Alloway
